You’re off the Great Places!
Today is your day!
Your mountain is waiting.
So…get on your way!
‘Oh, The Places You’ll Go’, Dr. Seuss.
Almost two years ago Daniel and decided to start planning a dream trip, buying a one way ticket and floating around Europe until money ran out. We’d just returned from spending five weeks travelling through Italy, Spain and France during June/July and arrived home itching to see more, drink more, eat more of the world. And so began the planning, the saving, the hoping that we could one day pull this off.
…And now here we are. I have less than three weeks left of work and in about four weeks we’ll be probably faking an injury or engagement at the check-in desk hoping to score an upgrade to business class for our flight to Madrid, via Doha.
It’s a scary thought, to have packed up most of your belongings already, to have written a resignation letter, to honestly not really know if you have saved enough money -but all the same it’s very liberating. People ask ‘what will you do for work when you get back?’, ‘where will you live?’, and I think the fear of the unknown is somehow intensely terrifying and satisfying at the same time.
We have a loose itinerary, framed around certain events/bookings -Las Fallas, Croatia Sail, Oktobefest to name a few- but for the most part we’ll hopefully be making a lot of it up as we go. We’ll be in Europe from March to September and then plan to head to Canada to get a job in the slopes for the ski season. Sounds like a good plan, so I’ll be interested to look back at these blog posts in a year’s time to see what’s happened.
For now, I’ll continue counting down days and dreaming of that first Cerveza when we touch down in Madrid.
